If you’re a homeschool parent searching for an engaging homeschool history curriculum for elementary students, you’re not alone.
Many families want their children to learn history and social studies in a meaningful way—but traditional programs often rely on long, dry textbooks that quickly lose a child’s attention.
As a classroom teacher for more than 16 years, I saw that struggle firsthand.
So I created something different.
Tony the Tourist Social Studies Curriculum is a printable and digital homeschool history curriculum designed for grades 3–6 that keeps students engaged while building strong reading, thinking, and research skills.
And best of all?
Everything is already prepared for you.
Created by a Real Teacher Who Loves Social Studies
Hello! My name is Teri, and I’m the creator of Tony the Tourist resources.
I hold a Master’s degree in Social Studies Education and have taught in both urban and rural schools. Over the years I developed a character named Tony the Tourist to help students explore history in a fun and engaging way.
In 2021, I began sharing my curriculum on Teachers Pay Teachers and later launched this website to help reach more teachers and homeschool families looking for better social studies curriculum.
Social studies is one of my favorite subjects to teach because it helps students understand the world around them. My goal was to create lessons that are:
- informative
- engaging
- classroom-tested
- easy to use
A Homeschool History Curriculum Without the Boring Textbook
Many history programs rely heavily on textbooks.
But textbooks often lead to:
• long reading blocks
• low engagement
• passive learning
Tony the Tourist curriculum was designed differently.
No textbook is required.
Every lesson includes short informational reading passages inside the student workbook, followed by activities that help students process and apply what they’ve learned.
Lessons are intentionally paced to include:
- reading
- reflection questions
- annotation and comprehension tasks
- hands-on projects
- interactive lapbook activities
- research opportunities
This pacing keeps students actively thinking and participating, rather than simply memorizing facts.
